Television Shows

Television allowed Trans+ activists to reach people beyond their own local communities. Suddenly it was possible to speak to larger audiences, alerting other Trans+ people of a wider community. Despite the exciting potentials, this kind of engagement was also dangerous. Interviewers were often hostile and ridiculing. Public visibility made Trans+ people more vulnerable to harassment and aggression. Unfortunately, this was the necessary price the community had to pay to achieve a public voice.
