1. Main street of Ahenkro, 2001

Description:
Main street of Banda-Ahenkro, view to the south, standing near the Banda Cultural Centre. In the distance, one of the passenger vans that made the daily trip to market towns (Wenchi, Sampa) is parked in front of the Omanhene's (paramount chief) palace. Two poles anticipate the arrival of electricity, still some years away. Metal roofs have begun to replace the thatched roofs of earlier years. Ahenkro, July, 2001.

Description:
A view looking northward on Ahenkro's main street. The paved road is bordered on either side by deep gutters. Electrical poles and wires run along one side of the street. Description:
Bridge spanning the Tombԑ River near Sabiye on the road from Menji to Ahenkro, view to the south. This is the route over which many of the supplies for construction of the Bui Dam arrived. The bridge is pictured here prior to the main dam construction (from December, 2009). Sabiye, June, 2008.

4. Carrying a clay pot by bicycle, Banda, 1994

Description:
A man transports a clay pot, carefully strapped to the back of his bicycle and cushioned beneath by coiled grass leaves. He is returning from one of the potting villages where hs has purchased the clay jar from a potter. More often, pottery was taken to markets by headloading, sometimes sold by potters, but also by women who traded in clay pots. Banda area, 1994.

5. Women heading to market, Dorbour, 1994

Description:
Women headloading pottery prepare to leave Dorbour to walk to the weekly market in Bondoukou, a distance of more than 30 km. They have secured the clay pots by tying nettting or cloth around them. The women are not necessarily potters. Some women trade in clay pots but do not make them. Dorbour, 1994.

In order to transport clay pots by motor vehicle, they must be carefully packed and padded. Here, blackened clay grinding bowls packed in grass have arrived in Techiman market from potting villages in Banda. Techiman, 1994.

Description:
Bridge spanning the Tombԑ River near Sabiye on the road from Menji to Ahenkro, view to the south. Loose planks had to be arranged to allow vehicles to pass. Kwasi Mensah and Mensah Listowell (white shirt) arrange loose planks to enable a vehicle to pass. Sabiye, August, 1982.
