1. Bagged charcoal ready for collection, Bui Kataa, 2008
- Description:
- Bags of charcoal awaiting transport to market. Charcoal production in Banda expanded from a relatively small-scale activity to a much larger-scale one over the early 2000s. This charcoal was made on the site of Bui Kataa, an old settlement located on the banks of the Black Volta River near Bui Village. The area is now under the floodwaters created by the Bui Dam. 2. Yaw Manje: Tobacco farming in Banda
- Description:
- Part 1 of an interview with Yaw Manje of Banda-Ahenkro, family head of Hakolo Katoo. Yaw Manje talks about how farmers in the Banda area took up tobacco farming in the 1980s and 1990s and reflects on how growing cash crops like tobacco and cotton affected the land and local communities. This short video focuses on the English translation provided by interviewer Enoch Mensah. A version of Part 1 with the full dialogue in Nafaanra and English is available through a link below.
