- Description:
- A Ligbi masquerade dancer from Bongase performs at a heritage celebration organized by the Banda Heritage Initiative. He wears a mask known as Gbanyamuso in Ligbi (beautiful Gonja woman), his body draped in a floral cloth. A young man follows close behind, fanning the dancer as he performs. 435. Iron bangle, Ngre Kataa, 2009
- Description:
- An iron bangle (SF 09-148) made from a round iron rod that has been spiral-twisted. Its ends overlap and are rounded. The bangle was found placed on the inside surface of a pottery jar resting next to a pair of miniature iron manacles (SF 09-171), around which were other pottery rims and lids (cluster C). Archaeologists interpret this context as part of a larger shrine feature (clusters A-D) in a metallurgical workshop. The bangle shows signs of corrosion by rusting. Scale in cm. Width: 8.1 cm. 436. Carrying a basketry fish trap, Akanyakrom, 2022
- Description:
- Mawell Gbadago (left), Dzobo Sebastian (center) & Dzobo Reuben (right) pictured with a basketry fish trap (exa in Ewe) that they made as part of a British Museum Endangered Material Knowledge Programme project to document Indigenous technologies in the Banda area. In his right hand, Sebastian carries a length of coiled stick (afɔtasi in Ewe) like that used to force open the trap body; a bundle of twisted vine used to make the rope with which the fishermen weave the bamboo trap; and a wooden mallet (ɛka fokpo in Ewe) used to pound the vine (adzɔ in Ewe) as they process it into rope. - Description:
- An insitu iron bangle (SF 09-132) made from a flattened iron rod with overlapping ends. 438. Ma Mnama weeding at farm near Banda-Ahenkro, 1982
- Description:
- Ma Mnama had a reputation as a successful farmer in the Banda area. Here she uses a short-handled hoe (kagbaan in Nafaanra; pl. kagbɛɛn) to cultivate her intercropped field, located to the east of Banda-Ahenkro, 1982. A 2018 interview with daughter Lelԑԑ Yahͻͻ provides background on Ma Mnama's history as a farmer. A link to the interview is available, below.

439. Completed basketry fish trap, Akanyakrom, 2022
- Description:
- Ewe fishermen Dzobo Reuben (left), Maxwell Gbadago (center) and Dzobo Sebastian (right) stand alongside a bamboo fish trap that they made from locally harvested resources. The trap is oriented in the way it would be placed in the water, braced by two long sticks that would be driven into the river bottom. The trap would also be secured by a rope anchoring the trap to a nearby tree or other secure object. Akanyakrom, 26 July, 2022.
