12. View of the Worker's Houses, Hacienda El Progreso in 1933/34

Description:
This photograph of Hacienda El Progreso was taken in 1933/34 by the Allen Hancock Expedition. It shows the main road leading into the highlands with worker's quarters on the southern edge of the village. The highlands to the east continue to show cleared expanses of pasturage.

Description:
Historic Photo (National Archives and Records Administration Albatross Expedition NARA-22-FA-89) of the worker's village of El Progreso in 1888, with Cerro San Joaquin and pastures in the distance. It is similar to Repeat Photograph 3 but further west along the path at 342m on a path running west from the road leading north from the plaza, atop the escarpment overlooking the town, 5m from the water treatment faciilty.

17. Burning Invasive Vegetation on Farmland outside El Progreso, 2016

Description:
El Progreso services a large, 8201 ha area with variably-sized farmsteads involved in gardening and ranching. Principal crops include: potatoes, maize, tomatoes, tree tomatoes, vegetables, yuca, plantains, bananas, watermelons, melons, pineapple, sugarcane, and citrus. The easiest way to clear farmland of invasive regrowth is through slashing and burning.

19. Lower Elevation Coastal Vegetation San Cristóbal 2014

Description:
This image was taken inside the park directly to the south of the higher elevation ZUE in which El Progreso is located. This Arid Zone is dominated by deciduous plants, including Prickly Pear , Candelabra, Lava cacti, shrubs, herbs, and smaller trees like Palo Santo .

This image was taken from El Junco, view Southwest. A higher elevation Fern-Sedge or Pampa Zone, begins above 500 masl. Above 400 masl is the Miconia Zone, once dominated by Miconia shrub but severly reduced through animal grazing and exotic introductions.
