- Description:
- Harry Randall (originally Petersen) organized the largest colonisation scheme of Norwegians in Galápagos. Eventually negotiating with Rogerio Alvarado and Manuel A. Cobos to settle on San Cristóbal, Randall discovered that neither held any legal claim to lands or cattle. Nevertheless, the scourge of red ants and pigs devastated their temperate crops, and by 1930 few of the Norwegian settlers remained; a few relocated to Santa Cruz.

- Description:
- At the time of her father’s death Josefina Cobos was living in Guayaquil and married to Rogerio Alvarado who assumed control of El Progreso in 1909. He, immediately announced ambitious plans to colonize other islands, introduced his own currency, and laid claim to the entire island, as the hacienda was being encroached upon by ex-peons and colonists. Alvarado’s business dealings quickly placed El Progreso into debt with mainland banks and Guayaquil businessman Lorenzo Tous.

- Description:
- Artifacts recovered from excavated deposits in El Progreso were processed immediately for analysis at the Galápagos Science Center. Drying the enormous volume of preserved specimens required most of the sidewalk directly across from the church. 7,604 artifacts weighing 80 kg, and over 23,000 animal bone specimens weighing almost 110 kg were recovered from the Carpintero midden alone.

- Description:
- The central sugar mill processing area lies directly to the west and down-slope from the Hacienda House. Historic mill infrastructure that could not be relocated or scavenged, remains today in various states of preservation. The image here is a three-dimensional LiDAR point cloud representing archaeological artifacts, measured using a FARO Focus 3D terrestrial laser scanner. LiDAR points have been colourized using digital photos of the features and surrounding area collected at the time of the LiDAR scans. Points relating to trees and other overlying vegetation have been removed to more clearly visualize the archaeological artifacts of interest. The animated walk-through shows the central mill area surrounded on either end by preserved HRT boilers. The walk-through circles around the central flue and boiler heating areas which lie directly across from the water retention ponds.
