A green glass shoulder seal marked “RICHARD & MULLER/NEUFCHATEL” with a Swiss cross in the centre of the seal may have originally been part of a brandy/cognac bottle; however, the company also were exporters of absinthe.

The quantity of preserved alcohol bottles in the midden assemblage suggest that beer and/or hard liquor were more popular than wine on the hacienda. However, bottles in a remote place like Hacienda El Progreso were likely reused many times before being discarded.

Discarded gun cartridge shells clearly date the midden associations. They include a “Nitro Club”12-gauge shot shell (1891-1911), a Winchester 30-30 cartridge (>1895), and a Peters 12-gauge shot shell made after 1887.

Various personal care products were recovered in the midden, including two examples of “Murray and Lanman’s Florida Water” bottles,a pot lid matching a “Cherry Toothpaste/Crown Perfumery” lid from London, and two tooth brushes made in France. This specimen may have been part of a comb manufactured of bone.
