Description:
A complete Holloway Gout ointment jar was recovered by the town carpenter from the midden on his property. Thomas Holloway was a patent medicine tycoon from London, and similar Holloway ointment pots have been recovered from late nineteenth century contexts in Australia, New Zealand, and the United States.

2. Dr. H.F. Peery’s Dead Shot Vermifuge Bottle

Description:
A bottle of “Dr. H.F. Peery’s Dead Shot Vermifuge” was recovered in archaeological context. This contained a deworming agent, made by A & B Sands in New York City.

3. Medicine Jar from the Mill Area

Description:
This complete medicine jar was found in the mill area in 2014.The late nineteenth century was a time when patent medicines thrived as modern cure-alls. The rare mention of health care at Hacienda El Progreso was the existence of a “hospital” room inside Cobos’ house.
