Artifacts recovered from excavated deposits in El Progreso were processed immediately for analysis at the Galápagos Science Center. Drying the enormous volume of preserved specimens required most of the sidewalk directly across from the church. 7,604 artifacts weighing 80 kg, and over 23,000 animal bone specimens weighing almost 110 kg were recovered from the Carpintero midden alone.
