Dear Sir :-
This will be your authority to inform the Benevolent Association and all responsible merchants that I have at their request this day retained Mr H. W. Herschmer, barrister, of this City, to tak up the newspaper question with the proper authorities here and Ottawa, with the view of suppression the sediticus policies of the "New Republic" newspaper company.
I hereby request you to ask the treasurer to send to Mr. Herschmer a formal retainer in the small sum of $25.00.
I have given Mr. Herschmer my personal undertaking that should he be successful I would guarantee his fees and expenses in the sum of $250.00, to be paid immediately on the successful completion of his work.
