今舉行慶祝酒會 增發特刊 附贈週刊共出版一四四頁
【温哥華訊】聯合報系世界日報温哥華社,定廿三日(星期六) 下午二時至五時,在克拉克街二二八八號該社舉行酒會,慶祝該社成立暨新廠新機啟用。
加拿大總理穆龍尼、國會議長約翰•福雷沙、外交部長麥多葛、多元文化部長魏納、國會反對黨領袖克里田、卑詩省督林思齊、卑詩省長哈葛、温哥華市長金寶、列治文市長布朗、及市議員陳志勳等,均分别致函該社,讚揚世界日報爲促進加國多元文化、繁榮社區不遺餘力。
世界日報總部設在紐約,温哥華社是繼舊金山、洛杉磯、多倫多之後成立的。
聯合報系董事長王惕吾,於去年底觀察北美地區,决定籌建温哥華廠,用以服務加拿大西部及美國西雅圖地區激增的華人,加强報導各類新聞與資訊,協助華人適應僑居社會,提高生活品質。
世界日報總管理處總經理兼紐約社長李厚維,於廿三日親臨温哥華主持慶祝酒會,以及新機按鈕儀式,温哥華社長簡武雄將陪同李社長、舊金山社長蘇民生、台北經濟文化辦事處長王維傑等共同剪綵。
温哥華世界日報廿三日發行四十四頁、連同贈閲的世界周刊廿八頁,廿三日增出七十二頁特刊,總共一百四十四頁,開創當地華文報紙一天出報頁數最多的紀録。

World Journal Vancouver Report
The World Journal Vancouver press, a branch of the United Daily News Group, will host a celebration reception from 2 pm to 5 pm, Saturday the 23rd at No. 2288, Clark Dr. This is to celebrate the establishment of the press with its new printing house and machines putting in use.
The press received congratulation letters from the Canadian Prime Minister, Brian Mulroney; the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Allen Fraser; the Secretary of State for External Affairs, Barbara McDougall; the Minister of State (Multiculturalism), Gerry Weiner; the leader of the Opposition, Jean Chrétien; the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, David See-Chai Lam; the Primer of British Columbia, Mike Harcourt; the Mayor of Vancouver, Gordon Campbell; the Mayor of Richmond, Henry Braun; and the Richmond City Councilor, Chen Zhixun. In their letters, they praised the World Journal newspaper for its efforts in improving the multicultural situation and supporting the development of the Chinese community in Canada.
The headquarters of World Journal Press is in New York, while the Vancouver office is set up after other offices established in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Toronto.
Mr. Wang Tiwu, chairman of the United Daily News Group, visited the North American regions at the end of last year. He decided to build a Vancouver branch to serve the Chinese immigrant population that increased rapidly in western Canada and Seattle. The purpose is to help Chinese immigrants adapt to the local community by strengthening local news coverage and improving the quality of life for the Chinese immigrants.
Li Houwei, General Manager of the World Journal and the Director of the World Journal New York, will come to Vancouver on the 23rd to host the celebration reception and press the button to start the new machine. The Director of World Journal Vancouver, Mr. Jian Wuxiong, will accompany the Director Li, San Francisco Director Su Minsheng, and Mr. Wang Weijie from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office to cut the ribbon in the ceremony.
The Vancouver World Journal released its forty-four-page issue on the 23rd. Together with the twenty-eight-page World Weekly and the special issue of seventy-two pages published on the same day it has 144 pages in total, creating a record for local Chinese newspapers in terms of one issue with the most pages.
