(未完)English translation: Editorial: The real revolutionary party
Gong jian (conquer the hardship)
Those who welcome or object to things by considering the benefits, the costs and the possibility of success are not real revolutionaries. Those who keep changing their decisions are not real revolutionaries either. The revolution demands weapons, blood, and the courage to sacrifice everything. Those who are selfish and afraid to die, no matter how much authority, skill, and money they have, cannot be talked with about revolution. The real revolutionaries are only those who are willing to make the sacrifice of their authority, money and even their lives when needed and who continue onwards until they reach their targets, without asking about costs and benefits or success and failure.
The revolutionary party has existed in our country for more than ten years. When the revolution was underground, the gentlemen were unsettled upon learning and the public thought it unwise. The revolutionaries within the country or overseas were often exiled when the revolution became more powerful. However, this caused them to unite more tightly, and their will to fight became stronger. So, the revolutionaries at that time were real revolutionaries. When the political situation changed, more people became revolutionaries and the group became complex. People who just followed the others without knowing what the revolution meant gradually joined the revolutionary party. So, that is the difference between real and fake revolutionaries.
Soon the Qing dynasty was overthrown and the republic was established. That was the end of the revolution. Our leader declared that the Tongmenghui (the revolutionary party) would change into the Kuomingtang. People, from China or overseas, old or young, were proud to join the Kuomingtang because of its achievement. The Kuomingtang’s members had become extremely diverse. There were some members who did not know the purpose of the Kuomingtang; there were members who used to be royalists but joined the Kuomingtang. We could not depend on them to further the party’s goals. Furthermore, they leaked our confidential information.
When the case of Song Jiaoren happened and the second revolution broke out, the so-called Kuomingtang members were mostly bystanders. Some members even affiliated themselves with traitors and left. The result of the revolution was then diminished. When the people talk about this, they are sorrowful. It is for this reason that Sun Yat-sen believed that the revolution could not be carried out by such a complicated party. He planned to organize the Chinese Revolutionary Party to replace the Kuomingtang. This would help unite the original revolutionaries and the new followers. At the same time, unreliable followers could not wait to distance themselves from the party even though they were not ashamed to join.
Some Tongmenghui members who joined before the revolution came up to state in public that they were senior party members and asked how only Sun Yat-sen could represent the 1911 revolution. From the tone, it seemed that they were suggesting that they could be the leaders to organize a new party or maintain the status quo. However, Yuan Shikai gradually showed his ambition of becoming the Hongxian Emperor. The senior Tongmenghui members who were opposed to the Chinese Revolutionary Party were finally helpless. The Chinese Revolutionary Party, although not very powerful, would not give up, and persistently collected money for the army. They also organized uprisings. That made us realize that the Chinese Revolutionary Party is the real revolutionary party of China. (Cont’d.)
