Interviewee: Can you talk about the influence of 新民国报的报纸 The New Republic newspaper over the local 包括报社在当地的华人社区的影响 Chinese Community? 包括是否参加一些福利事业呀 For example, organizing some donation or social assistance activities? 或者捐助因为经常有什么活动 Mr. Hsu: There were always some activities, 庆祝双十节国庆 like celebrating the National Day (of the Republic of China), Double Ten (the Wuchang Uprising of 10 October 1911), 或者是过年的时候 or New Year's Day. 各个社团 Many societies 他们有很多要记录下来的 had a lot to record. 那当时都是用文字写出来的 At that time, all was recorded in words, 他们是需要报馆 so they needed the newspaper press to 来帮他们宣传社团活动 help them publicize their activities. 不过呢报馆也希望 On the other side, our press hoped that they 商家能多登广告 would advertise more to 作为经费来源 help with our financial needs. 对不对 Right？有时候捐助也有但是不多的 Sometimes, there were donations but not many. 所以这关系是应该还不错的啦 So the relationship should be good I think.
