新民国报和当地其他族裔的 Interviewer: How about the relationship between 媒体之间是什么样的一种关系 The New Republic newspaper and other local ethnic groups' media 当时 at that time? 讲到华人的社区的新闻 Mr. Hsu: (When the mainstream media) talked about the news of the Chinese community, 都是报忧不报喜 usually these reports were all bad news were and no good news, 倒过来的 which contradicted the general rules. 华人有什么命案啦他们都登了 When there was some murdering happening in the Chinese (community), they all covered it. 他们也不会问我们 They would not consult us. 为什么？我们的设备太简陋了 Why? Our equipment was too crude. 不过有一点后来因为 But later with the increase of 华人移民越来越多 Chinese immigrants, 发生了几个命案 Several murders had taken place. 这个命案当然是我们比较清楚 We were certainly clearer about the cases. 警察局以前 The police 都根本不把我们记者当记者 never thought of us as journalists before. 后来就为了餐馆那个命案 But later it was for the restaurant murder case, 请我们华人报纸的记者到警察局 (the police) invited the journalists from the Chinese newspapers.
